Queen

Queen a book written and illustrated to teach our young girls ( specifically, black and brown ) to view themselves as Queens and not anything less. Great book idea. Was given the challenge of creating a visual where the mother and daughter to live and give her daughter the message of Queendom. I decided to draw the art in different angles and using simplicity for certain pages and become complex in others. Wanted a simple, bright but balanced color palette for the book. To evoke the "in your face" the topic, but also support the very serious idea that is the self -esteem and Self- perception of our young girls. Also, during the developmental phases it was crucial for me to guide the reader visually to bring in the topic so that its digestable for the kids to grasp. For added visual help, the book is littered with actual Black Queens of royal descent to show them more of the Queendom they inspire to be.
